Please visit the link below and log in to submit your Interlibrary Loan Request.  You can also visit your local library and have a librarian put in the request for you.

ILL FAQs

What's the difference between requests and Interlibrary Loans?

You can place a request or hold on a book or other item that is part of Queens Public Library's collection.  Interlibrary Loan is a service where a user of one library (Queens Public Library) can borrow books or receive photocopies of documents that are owned by another library, such as a university or other public library.

If I only have an eCard, can I still request an Interlibrary Loan?

No, you must have a valid “all access” library card from Queens Public Library.

Are there limits on how many requests I can make per week?

You can request as many as 5 books and/or photocopies of articles (up to 30 pages) per week.

Am I able to get items other than books or copies of articles?

We do not borrow CDs, DVDs, videos, audiocassettes, films, microfiche, microfilm, entire journals, or magazines.

Where do I pick up my Interlibrary Loans when they are ready?

Go to the library you chose for pickup and look on the regular Request Shelf.  Items are held for 7 days.

Can I now use Self-Check machines to check out and 24-Hour Return machines for returning?

Yes.  That is one of the changes we made to make it easier for our customers.

What is the loan term for Interlibrary Loans?

21 Days from check-out.

What if I need more time?

Interlibrary Loans cannot be renewed online via your account.  If you are seeking an extended due date, ask via ill@queenslibrary.org.

According to an Internet search I did, there are copies of the book I want, so why can't QPL get it via Interlibrary Loan?

There are several reasons for this:

  • That particular library does not participate in Interlibrary Loan.
  • The book is part of a reference or archival collection and will not be lent out.
  • The library charges a fee for lending. However, Queens Public Library will borrow the book if the customer is willing to pay.
  • At the time that the request was made, the book was already checked out by the lending library's customer.
  • The book is missing or lost.
