Are there places that give free computer equipment to seniors and/or those with disabilities?
Answer
Here are three places to start with. If you are unable to get what you need from them, feel free to contact us.
- Computers with Causes is a national U. S. computer donation program that supplies free refurbished computers mainly to educational enterprises. However, they also give computers to individuals. They assist those in need of a working computer that have nowhere else to turn. They receive thousands of requests per year through their computer application page and make every effort possible to help those less fortunate. You have to complete and submit the application form online.

- According to an April 19th press release, Mayor Adams, Department for the Aging Distribute 1,000 Free Computer Tablets to Older New Yorkers and Connect Them With City Services. Distribution Aims to Close Digital Divide for Older Adults Who Do Not Have Internet Service or Digital Equipment.
Contact: Aging Connect is the New York City Department for the Aging’s information and referral contact center for older adults and their families. Callers are referred to resources, services and opportunities in their community. Call 212-Aging-NYC (212-244-6469) to speak with an aging specialist.
- The Freecycle Network® is made up of more than 5,000 local Town groups with over 9 million members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Membership is free. Below you will find the group for Queens, NY. You make posts about things you want to gift or receive. Other members reply and then you arrange a pickup time and location.
